Our Audi 2.5 TFSI RS3 8Y gets 1000 hp and more!

We have already presented our first 2.5 TFSI tuning project to you, and now here comes the next big thing: we have broken the 1000 hp mark with our green Audi RS3 8Y! “The Green One” has already been the center of attention at several of our events, because what we have gotten out of the DNWA engine makes performance enthusiasts pale in comparison!

As always, we don't want to deprive you of a deeper look under the hood, so here you can find out everything that was necessary to achieve 1000 hp and more with the Audi RS3 8Y.

If you're already itching to make your own RS3 faster, you'll find all the parts you need in our tuning guide for the 2.5 TFSI EA855 evo.

The world's most powerful in-line five-cylinder engine: Audi's power package in the RS3

Audi's five-cylinder engines have been notorious ever since they rolled off the production line in the 1980s. Right from the start, they brought the Power of six cylinders and the moderate fuel consumption of four cylinders under one bonnet. Since then, the five-cylinder engine has been characteristic of the four rings and has also become an integral part of motorsport. The EA855 was then installed for the first time in the TT RS, followed by its use in the RS3 and RS Q3.

Pure adrenalin: performance and response behaviour on point

The entire combustion process has also been improved for the EA855 evo in order to comply with even future emissions standards: a dual injection system allows maximum flexibility of the injection parameters in conjunction with the intake manifold flaps. In addition, the newer 2.5 TFSI uses a more powerful turbocharger and an optimised exhaust manifold to reduce pressure loss and increase performance.

And because the adrenaline kick is essentially linked to the response behaviour, we also need to talk about the intelligent thermal management. On the one hand, this ensures that the engine warms up more quickly and, on the other, that there is no heat build-up when the engine stops. In this way, the entire performance of your RS3 is available to you much faster and more consistently. The RS3 8Y is also the first RS model to feature variable torque distribution (torque vectoring), which not only improves driving dynamics but also traction and safety.

In a nutshell, the Audi RS3 8Y is already an amazing car ex works! But like every other vehicle that rolls through our hallowed halls, it still has plenty of potential. Because we always pursue the goal of being able to drive 1000 hp steadfastly, we have also given everything for our green car. And now you can find out first-hand how we did it.

This is how we approach our tuning projects: BAR-TEK ®s Basics

In order to be able to offer you the greatest possible flexibility and at the same time make the parts fit perfectly, we try to solve as much as possible via Plug & Play. Because as Bartek says: "Everything has to fit". We aim to take the complexity out of tuning so that you can concentrate more on riding than on the technology. We also like to go beyond our limits to test what is possible - or not. One or two engines have already been tested, because one of Bartek's maxims is: "If you've never broken anything, you've never pushed it to the limit." Fortunately, since we're taking over, you can skip this step.

It is also important to us that you are safe on the road, including when it comes to your car's operating licence. That's why we are constantly expanding our repertoire of TÜV-approved tuning parts. So always look for the TÜV logo on our articles if you are not exclusively on the racetrack. This way, you can be sure that you are travelling legally on the road.

To tune the RS3 and bring it to its peak performance , it is important to start gently. We don't do the entire conversion in one go, but work our way up, run in the vehicle with new spark plugs, turbo etc., check the values on the test bench, measure the exhaust gas values in all cylinders and then improve other components. We are happy to do the parts that can also be replaced in the installed state later.

We recommend not doing too much in one go so that all components can be run in properly, especially your turbocharger.

How we optimise the injection on the RS3 8Y

The challenge with injection in the RS3 8Y is that it is lateral and not from above. This means that the pressure in the cylinder can quickly become too high. In addition, the high-pressure pump cannot be dismantled in order to install other tappets. High-pressure injectors should also only be operated up to a certain pressure, otherwise they will quickly break down. And too little pressure can also cause problems, as the fuel cools the injectors.
