Oil Catch Tank and Tuning
Engine Venting with an Oil Catch Can!
Oil catch tanks for engine ventilation in tuning
The oil catch tank, also known as an oil catch can, is an extremely important component for crankcase ventilation, especially for high-performance engines in tuning and motorsport. Although the system behind it is very simple, the high-quality workmanship and technically correct implementation are crucial for the performance and longevity of the engine.
Catch tank roughly translates to “catch container,” which hints at its purpose. It has two important functions that help protect your engine from costly damage: it should catch and separate. What exactly it catches and why you absolutely need an oil catch tank in tuning will be explained now.

Open vs. closed: Catch tank and TÜV
Some oil catch tanks can be installed in both closed form and open form.
For your Catchtank TÜV to be compliant, it must be installed within a closed venting system, as it works in series: the air freed from the oil is returned from the catch tank to the intake and enters the combustion chamber.
In the open system, the air from the catch tank is released directly into the atmosphere through a separate filter, which is not permitted for road use.

Questions about the catch can?
His first car was a Polo Mk1 with a 40 Weber twin carburetor and 129 PS (95 kW). His second was an Audi 50. Today Bartek tunes Lamborghinis to 1000 PS (735 kW). Even as a young boy, Bartek disassembled vehicles and put everything back together better. He wrote his high school diploma with oil on his fingers. The trained automotive mechanic with a focus on engines and gearboxes was determined to go into motorsports. In his 10 years in Formal 1, he supervised 73 races, including as engine mechanic for Ralf Schumacher at Toyota. Since 2010, he has dedicated himself fully to his company BAR-TEK® and helps his customers to bring VW and Audi engines to peak performance.
