Engine tuning like in F1 – BAR-TEK®'s expertise

Did you know that BAR-TEK® is not only the largest online shop for Audi and VW tuning parts, but also has more than 30 years of experience in motorsport? Since Bartek's beginnings in Formula 1 and the subsequent establishment of the company, we have constantly worked to expand our expertise and improve our products. Our fleet includes tuning projects with over 1000 hp, our “Area 51” workshop houses our extensive range of machinery, and our test bench allows us to measure all parameters with precision.

We can now do a lot in-house, from designing high-quality parts to measuring them on our test bench, thus ensuring the highest quality standards. That's why our expertise grows with every engine that passes through our hands. Find out exactly where our strengths lie now.

Nozzle service: We clean your nozzles with ultrasound

Professional cleaning of your vehicle's injection nozzles is often sufficient to restore smooth engine running. We disassemble and pre-clean the injectors. A leak test and initial measurement are then carried out to detect any damage directly. Once this process has been passed, all nozzles are ultrasonically cleaned with a special fluid. It should be noted that the nozzles are permanently activated during this process in order to achieve the best possible result. An output measurement is then taken to determine any differences. Finally, the nozzles are fitted with a new set of seals.

Tip from Bartek: "It is particularly important to check the injectors, even if they are new. Even brand new injectors can vary in quantity by up to 8 %. This can have a major impact on the tuning or engine running. We test ALL our injectors so that we have a good starting point before every tuning. There are particular problems with the TFSI injectors. These are very often coked and leak at a test pressure of just 5 bar!".

Turbocharger-Tuning - Our speciality

One of the things we are particularly good at is everything to do with turbochargers. In turbo tuning, the turbocharger is the centre of the performance increase and all other parts are selected on this basis. In order to be able to develop not only the highest quality and most modern turbocharger, but also all other parts around it, we never stop expanding our knowledge.

We have more than 30 years of experience in the field of turbocharged engines and can realise the craziest projects completely in-house, as we have highly specialised machines, some of which are also used in Formula 1.

Our 5-axis CNC machine from Hermle is particularly important for work on turbocharger and also on cylinder head, for example. It can be used for everything that requires extreme precision in the field of CNC machining: on turbocharger, on cylinder head, for valve seat machining etc.

CNC -cylinder head machining (cylinder head porting for more power) is carried out by us like in Formula 1, thanks to special machines. The same applies to our balancing machine for trunk assemblies, which we also use to balance trunk assemblies for Formula 1. We can also balance turbines with a special balancing machine.

We have a vacuum machine for adjusting the actuators, and we use a special contour measuring device to measure turbocharger housings. We also carry out laser welding and ultrasonic cleaning in our "Area 51".

Angling of connecting rods

Every conrods should always be checked for exact parallelism! This also applies to leading manufacturers such as Carillo. If a conrods is not guided straight in the bore, this can lead to excessive (one-sided) wear and even piston seizure. If a gap can be seen on the measuring unit, the conrods must be straightened.

Measuring valve springs

With our valve spring measuring device, we can measure the spring rate of any valve springs . This enables us to guarantee the perfect set-up for a racing engine.

Bedi cleaning for the suction

The problem with all direct-injection engines is that the intake ducts become coked over time, which often results in a loss of power and uneven engine running. The solution is BEDI cleaning. In this process, an additional fluid is injected while the engine is running, which dissolves and removes the impurities. However, if the contamination is too severe, the entire intake manifold must be dismantled for safety reasons in order to gain better access to the affected valves. In this case, the injectors should also be tested at the same time.

Prototyping with the 3D printer

Many of our ideas are genuine pioneering work, because often the parts we want for our projects simply don't exist yet. To realise these completely new ideas, we produce prototypes with our 3D printer.

We first create a CAD drawing, which is then printed. The advantage of this is that a finished product is created and can be trial-fitted. If the component is not a perfect fit, we can change it quickly without using expensive materials.

Performance measuring on our test bench

Bartek says: "Our Maha MSR test stand is one of the most modern in the world. It was important for us to be able to measure exact results and repeat and compare them later. It's a bit like Formula 1, where it's all about individual hp. We have an extremely wide range of options; it's not just about measuring performance. Thanks to various sensors and measurement techniques, we always get a good picture of each vehicle. It's always important to know what the baseline is like, and the MAHA MSR 500 tells us that cold as ice and without sugarcoating anything!"
