Break Cooling. That makes the difference!

Brake Cooling

Good brakes are the be-all and end-all for a motorsport vehicle. The brakes can make the difference between victory and defeat. If the brake grips better, the braking point can be set later, which in some cases can bring the crucial second.

The optimal temperature range

As we all know, a brake works by friction and friction generates heat. So far no problem if you only brake once. But if you are traveling faster, for example on passes or a racetrack, many standard brake systems quickly reach their limits. The problem is that the resulting heat can no longer be transported away several times. The brake disc and also the brake fluid heat up. Here we are talking about temperature ranges of up to 900°C. The standard brakes on many vehicles would quickly be overwhelmed by this.
If the brake disc is not designed for this temperature range, the heat can change the structure of the metal, the disc warps and the pads become vitrified. The brake lining can no longer rub properly on the disc and can no longer exploit its maximum deceleration potential. But what is even more devastating: an overheated brake disc no longer produces any friction. The brake starts to "fade".

Racing brakes, on the other hand, also need a certain basic temperature in order to work efficiently. It is also important to maintain this ideal temperature range. The brakes heat up by themselves. The brake ventilation must therefore be optimized or installed first.
