Optimise the intake

If you want to tune your car, optimising the intake is often one of the first steps besides chip tuning. This is not least because you can do a lot to optimise the intake yourself. Because many parts can be replaced by means of plug & play. You will thus very quickly have an improved intake, more power and torque and a sportier sound. We show you why you should tune your intake and which tuning parts can be used to carry out the process quickly and easily.

Why you should optimise the air intake of your car

A new car is designed so that it can be made available to as many people as possible and so that it can be driven almost anywhere in the world – at tropical temperatures and on icy roads. This means that your engine is not optimised for the local conditions. You can make use of the untapped potential by adapting certain parameters. Besides chip tuning, which optimises the characteristics of your engine control unit, the intake’s potential can also be tapped in order to fully exploit your engine’s resources. Not only a sport air filter can provide more power and torque here. Intake manifolds and our improved intake hoses also provide you with the performance you want from your tuned engine.

How does the intake of an engine work?

The air is suctioned from the outside into the air filter box, through the air filter and to the air mass flow meter (with older engines). From here it goes through the suction hose to the suction side of the turbocharger. And from there, the compressed air is sent via the intercooler and the butterfly valve to the engine. This process should take place with as little flow resistance as possible, since otherwise the full power cannot be exploited. The suctioned air must be as cool as possible, since the oxygen content in cool air is much higher than in warm air. Therefore, the intake air should not come from the hot engine compartment, but from outside.

Which areas of the intake can you optimise?

When your car comes straight from the factory, it must meet all requirements in terms of emission values, power, fuel consumption, etc. To achieve this, compromises must be made which limit performance. This untapped potential is released by optimising the intake. In particular, the air volume, the flow of the intake air and its temperature are enhanced. Even in professional motorsport, optimisations are made to this end in order to boost the performance of race cars. The air volume is essential for your engine’s combustion. The more oxygen and fuel it gets, the better the process goes and the better the performance. The flow is also an important point, as the series production parts often cause turbulence in the intake air. This is particularly noticeable with turbocharged engines. An optimal flow therefore also means more power!

How to optimise the intake of your Golf 7 GTI

With the Golf 7 GTI, the intake works slightly differently than with its predecessors. Due to the use of an anti-clockwise turbo, the suction paths are considerably shorter, which proves very advantageous for tuning. In addition, we no longer have an air mass flow meter in the Golf 7, which is also an advantage for the intake. Unfortunately, the series hoses are still made of plastic, which is not suitable for the extreme performance boost. Because in the case of very high vacuum pressure, a plastic hose could be squeezed together and collapse. In series production, the tubes are therefore produced with ribbing, which in turn leads to air turbulence that impedes the intake air. The cross-section of the tubes is also too small for the increased air mass. This is why we made the suction hoses for the Golf 7 streamlined and out of silicone. They are perfect for extreme performance and thus ensure more torque, performance and, of course, driving pleasure. And all the while meeting TÜV requirements!

Optimising the intake of the Golf 5 GTI

For the Golf 5 GTI, the intake paths are still significantly longer than with the current model. An air mass flow meter is also still installed in it, which is also not ideal. In addition, the induction pipes are designed in such a way that the intake air must pass through many angles. Our optimised hoses and pipes for your Golf 5’s intake are made of silicone. They allow optimum throughput and ensure a better sound, improved responsiveness and more torque and performance! With our in-house-developed carbon intake for the Golf 5, we have even taken it all a step further. This was developed together with a Formula 1 technician and perfected over months. That’s a power boost at motorsport level! The intake is made of carbon, while the intake plenum comes with a special performance air filter and a heat shield so that the intake air is nice and cool. How to optimise the intake of your 1.8T engine

The standard intake in the 1.8L TFSI engine has a lot of kinks and curves, which significantly reduces the flow of the intake air. In addition, the original air paths are very narrow and not streamlined. This also leads to a lot of lost potential. With our optimised intake hoses for the Golf 4 or Audi TT, you get around these problems. The paths are shortened and reach the turbo with the right throughput through our streamlined silicone hoses. The sound is also much better.

Engines with direct injection regularly suffer from coking of the valves and intake ports of the cylinder head and the suction pipe. This is caused by exhaust gas recirculation and the recirculation of the crankcase ventilation. This coking causes you to significantly lose performance and the engine to no longer run smoothly. Hallo Bar-Tek, interessiere mich für Euren LLK (2118t373) für meinen 1,9 PD 1U5 Octavia AXR (8004/AAB). Paßt der an die Originalstelle bzw. was benötige ich noch zum anschließen? Bitte um Erstellen eines kompletten Pakets. Gibt es eventuell Info in wie weit Leistungszunahme zu erwarten ist? Danke MfG Thomas

Hi Koleszar, der Kühler passt an die originalen Halterungen und du kannst die Serienverrohrung wieder verwenden. Die Leistung des Motors wird durch die kühlere Ansaugluft verbessert. Eine PS-Angabe kann man so pauschal nicht machen da das von vielen Faktoren abhängt.
