With the turbine housings for Garrett turbocharger you can assemble the turbo according to your own ideas. This makes sense if, for example, you want to adapt the turbocharger for a different displacement with different A/R values. Housings with different flanges can also be installed.
Determining the A/R value correctly:
The A/R value determines the exhaust gas flow rate of the turbine housing and is therefore primarily responsible for the power characteristics of turbocharger and engine. As a general rule: the smaller the A/R value, the earlier the turbocharger responds; on the other hand, exhaust backpressure increases and the maximum power decreases.
