CBD08, short for "Can Bus Distribution" with 8 ports

What is this module intended for?

Connecting CAN bus devices in your vehicle can sometimes be a real challenge. It requires clean routing and connection of CAN bus cables, providing power for the devices, and finding a suitable way to terminate the CAN bus. In addition, there is often a need for multiple CAN buses to meet different requirements – such as the drivetrain CAN bus, the comfort CAN bus, and a programming CAN bus (USB2CAN), to name just a few.

To address exactly this problem, CANchecked has developed a practical add-on module with 8 ports. Each connection carries four wires: CAN High, CAN Low, 12V and ground.

The CBD08 hardware – with dimensions of just 96x47x33mm, the box is incredibly compact and fits practically anywhere. The connectors are designed according to the widely used DTM04-4P standard. Matching sockets, DTM06-4S, can optionally be purchased to complete the installation. For mounting, two holes are provided in the middle, and you can use the two supplied screws.

CBD08 configuration options:

Under the lower cover there are jumpers on the PCB:

  • On the left side, JP3 and JP4 connect both CAN buses to each other (CAN bus 1 and CAN bus 2). If both jumpers are removed, both CAN buses are separated, each with four ports
  • JP1 enables CAN bus termination for CAN bus 1
  • JP2 enables CAN bus termination for CAN bus 2

The box can optionally be equipped with a 12V/ground supply line. This can then be tapped from the other ports to supply the end devices with power. However, devices with higher current consumption should not be supplied via the module. In such cases, you should only connect them via the CAN bus lines and set up a separate power supply.

If you choose the standard configuration, all 8 CAN bus ports are connected to each other, and both CAN bus termination resistors are enabled.
